Idrīsī Library

An open library of historical geography of the premodern Islamic world.

Idrīsī assembles the placenames (toponyms) and geographic coordinates recorded by geographers of the premodern Islamic world and renders them searchable, comparable, and openly available. It draws on printed reference works and, above all, on the manuscript sources themselves, so that a single locality may be traced across the many works that named and situated it.
